How to Install an eSIM on Motorola (Turkey eSIM Guide)
Set up your Turkey eSIM on a Motorola phone: Network & internet, the hidden Download a SIM instead link, and roaming — step by step for Türkiye.
Updated September 17, 2026
Three things to know before you start
It connects only at your destination
Install at home, but expect “No Service” or “Activating…” until you land — that is normal. The plan wakes up when the line first finds a network at your destination.
Your QR code works exactly once
Seeing “invalid QR” after a scan almost always means the eSIM is already on your phone. Don’t rescan — open your SIM list and just switch the line on.
No internet after landing? Check Data Roaming
Turn the travel line on, set it as your mobile data line, and switch Data Roaming ON for it. This one toggle causes most “it doesn’t work” messages.
Installation steps
- 1
Install the app and buy your plan before you fly
Download the Turkey eSIM app and buy a data plan for your trip a day or two before departure, not at the airport. Your QR code and activation details appear in the app immediately after checkout, and there's no shop to find and no queue once you land.
- 2
Connect to Wi-Fi
Install the eSIM at home over a reliable Wi-Fi connection, before you travel. The download needs internet access, and setting it up in advance means you land in Türkiye with the line already sitting on your phone, ready to switch on.
- 3
Open Settings and go to Network & internet
On your Motorola phone, open Settings and tap Network & internet. Motorola runs close to stock Android, so this path is nearly identical to a Pixel.
- 4
Tap SIMs, then Add SIM
Tap SIMs, then tap the Add SIM or plus button. Your phone will ask how you want to add a SIM, as if you were inserting a physical card.
- 5
Look below the prompt for "Download a SIM instead?"
This is the step readers get stuck on: the Download a SIM instead? link sits in small text underneath the main button, often at the very bottom of the screen or just off it. Scroll down before assuming it isn't there, tap it, then tap Next — this tells the phone you're adding a digital eSIM, not a physical card.
- 6
Scan the QR code from the app
Display your QR code from the Turkey eSIM app on a second screen or a printout and scan it with the camera. No second device? Choose the manual entry option and paste the activation code from the app instead.
- 7
Finish the download and name the line
Tap Download and wait a moment while the eSIM installs. Give it a clear name like Türkiye in the SIMs list, and leave the line off until your trip so nothing starts before you land.
- 8
On arrival, activate the eSIM and enable roaming
When you land in Türkiye, go to Settings, Network & internet, SIMs, tap the Turkey eSIM, switch it on and enable Mobile data for it, then turn on Roaming for the same line. The roaming toggle only applies to the travel eSIM — your plan runs at local rates, so there are no roaming fees.
Traveling to Türkiye with a Motorola phone? An eSIM gets you online the moment you land — no queuing at an airport SIM kiosk, no fiddling with a SIM ejector tool, and no roaming charges from your home carrier. Install the Turkey eSIM app and buy your prepaid data plan before you leave home, download the eSIM to your phone, and it works alongside your regular SIM so you stay reachable on your own number.
Motorola runs close to stock Android, which makes most of this setup familiar if you’ve used a Pixel. The one place people get stuck is the “Download a SIM instead?” link buried below the main prompt when adding a SIM — this guide points to exactly where it sits so you don’t scroll past it and assume your phone doesn’t support eSIM.
The installation itself takes about five minutes. Do it over Wi-Fi before you fly: your plan’s validity only starts the first time the eSIM connects to a network in Türkiye, so there’s no downside to installing early — and every reason not to leave it until you’re standing in arrivals.
Before you start
- eSIM-capable Motorola phone (Edge and Razr series, recent Moto G models)
- Carrier-unlocked phone, with eSIM enabled for your region
- Stable Wi-Fi connection
- Turkey eSIM app installed with a purchased plan
Troubleshooting
I can't find "Download a SIM instead?" anywhere.
It's there, but Motorola's stock Android buries it as small text below the main Next button — on smaller screens it often sits right at the bottom or just off it, so scroll down before assuming the option is missing. Make sure you're in Settings, Network & internet, SIMs, and have tapped Add SIM first; the link only appears on the screen that asks how you want to add a SIM.
My Motorola doesn't show any eSIM option at all.
Some Motorola models ship with eSIM disabled depending on the country or carrier version they're sold in, even when the identical phone supports it elsewhere — this regional gap is a known Motorola quirk, not a setting you're missing. Dial *#06#: if an EID number is listed alongside the IMEI, the hardware supports eSIM and a carrier lock is the more likely cause; if no EID appears, your specific variant doesn't support it and no amount of searching will find the menu.
The QR code won't scan.
Raise the brightness of the screen showing the code and hold the phone 20–30 cm away until the frame catches it. If scanning keeps failing, choose the manual entry option during setup and paste the activation code from the Turkey eSIM app.
I'm in Türkiye and the eSIM shows signal but no internet.
Check that Mobile data is enabled for the eSIM and that Roaming is switched on for that line — without roaming, the eSIM can register on a network but won't pass data. Then toggle Airplane mode on and off. As a last resort, open the eSIM's network settings and select a Turkish network manually.
Do I get charged roaming fees when I turn Roaming on?
No. On the Turkey eSIM line the roaming toggle is simply required for the connection to work — the plan is prepaid at local rates, so nothing extra is billed. Keep roaming off on your home SIM, though, or your regular carrier may charge you.
Do I have to scan the QR code at all?
No. In the Turkey eSIM app, open My eSIMs, tap your plan and tap Install — the profile installs on the same phone with no camera involved. The QR route exists for installing from a second screen; both end in the identical profile, and the steps after the install are the same either way.
