How to Install an eSIM on Xiaomi (Turkey eSIM Guide)
Set up your Turkey eSIM on a Xiaomi, Redmi or POCO phone: the SIM cards & mobile networks path in HyperOS or MIUI, QR or direct install, and roaming settings for Türkiye.

Three things to know before you start
It connects only at your destination
Install at home, but expect “No Service” or “Activating…” until you land — that is normal. The plan wakes up when the line first finds a network at your destination.
Your QR code works exactly once
Seeing “invalid QR” after a scan almost always means the eSIM is already on your phone. Don’t rescan — open your SIM list and just switch the line on.
No internet after landing? Check Data Roaming
Turn the travel line on, set it as your mobile data line, and switch Data Roaming ON for it. This one toggle causes most “it doesn’t work” messages.
Installation steps

Buy your plan in the Turkey eSIM app
Open the Turkey eSIM app, choose a data plan for your trip, and complete checkout. Your QR code and activation details appear in the app immediately after purchase.

Connect to Wi-Fi
Install the eSIM at home over a reliable Wi-Fi connection, before you travel. The download needs internet access, and setting it up in advance means you land in Türkiye ready to go.

Open Settings and go to SIM cards & mobile networks
On your Xiaomi, Redmi or POCO phone, open Settings and tap SIM cards & mobile networks. On HyperOS this sits near the top of the main Settings list; on older MIUI versions the same screen may be filed under Connections or simply labeled SIM cards & mobile data — the name shifts between skins, but the eSIM option is always inside it.

Tap Add eSIM
Tap Add eSIM (or the plus icon next to an empty SIM slot on some MIUI builds, sometimes labeled Activate eSIM). Confirm that you want to add a new mobile plan.

Scan the QR code from the Turkey eSIM app
Choose Scan QR code and point your camera at the code shown in the Turkey eSIM app on another screen or a printout. If scanning fails, choose Enter the details manually and paste the activation code from the app instead.

Confirm and download the eSIM
Confirm the plan your phone found, then wait a minute while the eSIM downloads and installs. Give it a name like Türkiye in SIM cards & mobile networks, and leave the line switched off until your trip.

On arrival, turn on the eSIM and set it for mobile data
When you land in Türkiye, go back to Settings, SIM cards & mobile networks, switch the Turkey eSIM on, and set Mobile data to the eSIM. Keep your home SIM selected for calls and texts if you want to stay reachable on your own number.

Turn on data roaming for the eSIM
In the same SIM cards & mobile networks screen, tap the Turkey eSIM line and enable Data roaming. This doesn't add any charge — your plan is billed at local rates, and the toggle only affects the travel eSIM.

The installation itself takes about five minutes. Do it over Wi-Fi before you fly: your plan’s validity only starts the first time the eSIM connects to a network in Türkiye, so there’s no downside to installing early — and every reason not to leave it until you’re standing in arrivals.
Before you start
- eSIM-capable Xiaomi, Redmi or POCO phone on the global/international firmware (not a mainland China–only model)
- Carrier-unlocked phone
- Stable Wi-Fi connection
- Turkey eSIM app installed with a purchased plan
Troubleshooting
There's no Add eSIM option on my phone.
Either your model doesn't have eSIM hardware or the feature is switched off for your variant. Check Settings, About phone, and look for an EID, or dial *#06# — if an EID appears alongside your IMEI, the phone supports eSIM; if it doesn't, this model can't use one, regardless of firmware.
My Xiaomi or Redmi is a mainland China model — will it support eSIM?
Probably not. Xiaomi's mainland China–market phones are commonly sold without eSIM support, even when the identical-looking global version has it. Check the spec sheet for your exact model and region, or confirm with the EID check above before you buy a plan.
The QR code won't scan.
Turn up the brightness on the screen showing the code and hold your phone steady about 20–30 cm away. If it still won't scan, back out to SIM cards & mobile networks, choose Add eSIM again, and enter the activation code by hand from the Turkey eSIM app instead.
The eSIM started downloading, but I get an error like "Couldn't add plan" partway through.
This usually means the connection dropped mid-download or the phone is carrier-locked. Confirm you're on stable Wi-Fi and the phone is unlocked, restart it, and try again — your QR code stays valid until the profile installs successfully once.
I'm in Türkiye but mobile data isn't working.
Open SIM cards & mobile networks and check that the Turkey eSIM is switched on and set as the Mobile data SIM, then confirm Data roaming is enabled for that line. If it still won't connect, toggle Airplane mode on and off, or restart the phone to force it to register on a Turkish network.
Do I have to scan the QR code at all?
No. In the Turkey eSIM app, open My eSIMs, tap your plan and tap Install — the profile installs on the same phone with no camera involved. The QR route exists for installing from a second screen; both end in the identical profile, and the steps after that are the same either way.
