How to Install an eSIM on Huawei (Turkey eSIM Guide)
Set up your Turkey eSIM on a Huawei phone: the SIM management path in EMUI or HarmonyOS NEXT, getting the app without Google Play, and roaming settings for Türkiye.
Updated September 17, 2026
Three things to know before you start
It connects only at your destination
Install at home, but expect “No Service” or “Activating…” until you land — that is normal. The plan wakes up when the line first finds a network at your destination.
Your QR code works exactly once
Seeing “invalid QR” after a scan almost always means the eSIM is already on your phone. Don’t rescan — open your SIM list and just switch the line on.
No internet after landing? Check Data Roaming
Turn the travel line on, set it as your mobile data line, and switch Data Roaming ON for it. This one toggle causes most “it doesn’t work” messages.
Installation steps
- 1
Get the Turkey eSIM app and buy your plan
On Huawei phones with Google Mobile Services, install the Turkey eSIM app from the Play Store as usual. On newer models without Google Mobile Services, get it from AppGallery instead, or install the APK directly from turkeyesim.net if it isn't listed there for your region. Open the app, choose a data plan for your trip, and complete checkout — your QR code and activation details appear right away.
- 2
Connect to Wi-Fi
Install the eSIM at home over a reliable Wi-Fi connection, before you travel. The download needs internet access, and setting it up in advance means you land in Türkiye ready to go.
- 3
Open Settings and go to Mobile network, then SIM management
On EMUI, open Settings, tap Mobile network, then SIM management. On phones running HarmonyOS NEXT the setting lives in the same place but the screen is laid out differently — look for a card with your carrier's name and an option below it to add a plan.
- 4
Tap Add eSIM
Tap Add eSIM in SIM management. Confirm that you want to add a new mobile data plan.
- 5
Scan the QR code from the Turkey eSIM app
Choose Scan QR code and point your camera at the code shown in the Turkey eSIM app on another screen or a printout. If scanning fails, choose to enter the details manually and paste the activation code from the app instead.
- 6
Confirm and download the eSIM
Confirm the plan your phone found, then wait a minute while the eSIM downloads and installs. Give it a name like Türkiye in SIM management, and leave the line switched off until your trip.
- 7
On arrival, turn on the eSIM and set it for mobile data
When you land in Türkiye, go back to Settings, Mobile network, SIM management, switch the Turkey eSIM on, and set Default for mobile data to the eSIM. Keep your home SIM selected for calls and texts if you want to stay reachable on your own number.
- 8
Turn on data roaming for the eSIM
In the same Mobile network settings, enable Data roaming for the Turkey eSIM line. This doesn't add any charge — your plan is billed at local rates, and the toggle only affects the travel eSIM.
Traveling to Türkiye with a Huawei phone? An eSIM gets you online the moment you land — no queuing at an airport SIM kiosk, no ejector-tool fumbling, and no roaming charges from your home carrier. You buy a prepaid data plan in the Turkey eSIM app, download the eSIM to your phone, and it works alongside your regular SIM so you stay reachable on your own number.
This guide covers the complete setup on both EMUI and HarmonyOS NEXT: getting the app — from AppGallery or as a direct APK if your phone has no Google Mobile Services — buying your plan, installing the eSIM through SIM management with a QR code, and the settings to switch on when you arrive. It applies to eSIM-capable Huawei phones from the P40 series onward, Mate 40 and newer, and recent nova models that support eSIM.
The installation itself takes about five minutes. Do it over Wi-Fi before you fly: your plan’s validity only starts the first time the eSIM connects to a network in Türkiye, so there’s no downside to installing early — and every reason not to leave it until you’re standing in arrivals.
Before you start
- eSIM-capable Huawei phone (P40 series and newer, Mate 40 and newer, recent nova models with eSIM support)
- Carrier-unlocked phone
- Stable Wi-Fi connection
- Turkey eSIM app installed with a purchased plan
Troubleshooting
My Huawei doesn't have Google Play — can I still get the Turkey eSIM app?
Yes. Newer Huawei phones ship with Huawei Mobile Services instead of Google Mobile Services, so there's no Play Store. Install the Turkey eSIM app from AppGallery, or, if it isn't listed there for your region, download the APK directly from turkeyesim.net and install it from the file. Either way, the app and the eSIM setup that follows work the same.
My menus don't match — I'm on HarmonyOS NEXT, not EMUI.
That's expected on the newest Huawei phones. HarmonyOS NEXT reorganizes Settings, so Mobile network and SIM management may sit under different groupings or use slightly different labels than on EMUI. The eSIM function itself is the same — look for your carrier's name as a card in Mobile network, with an option underneath to add or manage an eSIM.
There's no Add eSIM option in SIM management.
Either your model doesn't have eSIM hardware, the feature is disabled on your variant, or the phone is carrier-locked. Check Settings, About phone, for an EID, or dial *#06# — if an EID shows up next to your IMEI, the phone supports eSIM; if not, this unit can't add one.
The QR code won't scan.
Turn up the brightness on the screen showing the code and hold your phone steady about 20–30 cm away. If it still won't scan, go back into SIM management, choose Add eSIM again, and enter the activation code by hand from the Turkey eSIM app instead.
The eSIM started downloading, but I get an error partway through, like "Couldn't add profile".
This usually means the connection dropped during download or the phone is carrier-locked. Confirm you're on stable Wi-Fi and the phone is unlocked, restart it, and try adding the eSIM again — your QR code stays valid until the profile installs successfully once.
I'm in Türkiye but mobile data isn't working.
Open SIM management and check that the Turkey eSIM is switched on and set as the default for mobile data, then confirm Data roaming is enabled for that line under Mobile network. If it still won't connect, toggle Airplane mode on and off, or restart the phone to force it to register on a Turkish network.
