On a Samsung Galaxy, you add an eSIM for Turkey in Settings > Connections > SIM manager > Add eSIM, then set the new line as the preferred SIM for mobile data and turn on data roaming for it; your own number stays on its line for calls and texts. The menu names change slightly between One UI versions, and Samsung spreads the settings across more screens than an iPhone does. This guide walks through the Galaxy flow step by step and points out where it differs from Apple’s.

Check the model and the lock first

Not every phone sold under the Galaxy name supports eSIM. Support depends on the model and, for some models, on the market it was made for, so the same Galaxy name can behave differently from one region to another. Our guide to checking whether your phone supports eSIM explains how to confirm yours. If Settings > Connections > SIM manager shows an option to add an eSIM, your phone supports it.

The phone also has to be carrier-unlocked. Samsung does not show the lock status as plainly as an iPhone does, so if you bought the phone through a carrier, ask that carrier whether it is unlocked before you travel. Do both checks at home: neither can be fixed in an arrivals hall.

Adding the eSIM in SIM manager

Connect to stable Wi-Fi, then open Settings > Connections > SIM manager. On older One UI versions the screen is called SIM card manager. Tap Add eSIM. The phone may search for plans from your carrier first; skip that and choose the option to scan a QR code from a service provider.

Scan the code from a second screen or a printout. If that is not possible, look for the option to enter an activation code, and type the details exactly as provided. The phone downloads the profile and asks you to confirm adding it. When it finishes, SIM manager lists two lines: your home line and the new one.

Name the lines, then pick the preferred SIM

SIM manager lets you rename each line and give it an icon. Call the new one “Travel” and your own one “Home”; on a phone with two lines, a clear name prevents mistakes later.

Then scroll to Preferred SIM. Samsung sets three roles separately: Calls, Text messages and Mobile data. Set Mobile data to the travel line. For Calls and Text messages, choose your home line if you want people to see your own number, or the option that asks you each time if you want to pick per call. Below that, look for Data switching (in some versions, Auto data switching) and turn it off, so the phone does not move your data back to the home line when the travel signal dips.

Roaming and network selection

Samsung keeps roaming in a different place from SIM manager. Go to Settings > Connections > Mobile networks, pick the travel line if the phone asks which SIM you mean, and switch Data roaming on. A travel eSIM needs data roaming on to connect.

For your home line, do the opposite if you want to avoid your carrier’s roaming charges: data roaming off, the line itself left on so calls and texts can still reach you on whatever terms your carrier sets. In the same Mobile networks menu, under Network operators, you can turn off automatic selection and pick a network by hand, which helps if the phone has trouble registering after arrival.

After you land

Turn off airplane mode once phones are allowed. The Galaxy searches for a network for the travel line; give it a minute. The status bar shows signal bars for both lines, and the travel line should show a data indicator once it connects.

If it does not connect, go through three things in order: Preferred SIM > Mobile data is on the travel line, Data roaming is on for that line in Mobile networks, and the travel line is switched on in SIM manager. Then restart the phone. Do not delete the eSIM to fix a problem; deleting removes the profile from the phone, and getting it back depends on the provider. Contact support first. When a plan’s validity starts is set out in our FAQ, worth reading before you decide how early to install.

Doing it at home, on Wi-Fi

The Galaxy flow has more screens than Apple’s, which is the best argument for doing it calmly at home rather than at a busy airport. If you also travel with an iPhone user, our iPhone setup guide for Turkey shows their version of the same steps. Compare data sizes on our plans and prices page before you buy.

Turkey eSIM is installed at home over Wi-Fi before departure, so nothing has to be done on arrival in Turkey: no SIM shop, no QR code to hunt for, no passport registration at a counter. Every Samsung screen, in order, is in our Samsung installation guide.
