The fastest way to check eSIM support: dial *#06# on your phone’s keypad — if an EID (a 32-digit number) appears alongside your IMEI, your phone has eSIM hardware. As a rule of thumb, iPhone XS (2018) and newer, Samsung Galaxy S20 (2020) and newer, and Google Pixel 3 (2018) and newer all support eSIM.

There’s one more hurdle even on a compatible phone — a carrier lock — and a few regional exceptions worth knowing. Here’s the complete picture for 2026.

The 30-second checks

Check 1: Dial *#06#

Open the phone/dialer app and type *#06#. A screen pops up automatically showing your device identifiers:

  • EID shown → your phone has an eSIM chip.
  • Only IMEI shown, no EID → no eSIM support (or, on some Androids, eSIM is disabled in that regional model — see below).

Check 2: Look in Settings

  • iPhone: Settings → Cellular (or “Mobile Service”) → if you see “Add eSIM” or “Add Cellular Plan”, you’re set. The EID is also under Settings → General → About.
  • Samsung: Settings → Connections → SIM manager → look for “Add eSIM”.
  • Pixel and most other Androids: Settings → Network & internet → SIMs → look for “Add SIM” / “Download a SIM instead?”.

If the option exists in settings, the hardware supports it.

Compatible phones by brand (2026)

Apple iPhone

Every iPhone from the XS, XS Max, and XR (2018) onward supports eSIM:

  • iPhone XS / XS Max / XR
  • iPhone 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17 series (all models, including SE 2nd gen and later, and the Air)

Notes:

  • US-market iPhone 14 and later have no physical SIM tray at all — they’re eSIM-only, so if you bought your iPhone in the USA, you’re already an eSIM user.
  • Exceptions: iPhones sold in mainland China have no eSIM on most models. Older units from Hong Kong and Macau also vary. The *#06# test settles it.

Samsung Galaxy

eSIM arrived broadly with the Galaxy S20 (2020):

  • Galaxy S20, S21, S22, S23, S24, S25 series
  • Galaxy Note 20 series
  • Galaxy Z Flip and Z Fold (all generations)
  • Galaxy A54, A55, A56 and many recent A-series models (varies by region)

Notes: Samsung is the brand where region matters most. Some US carrier variants and some models sold in certain markets shipped with eSIM disabled even though the flagship spec sheet lists it. Always confirm with SIM manager or *#06# on your actual device rather than trusting the model name.

Google Pixel

Google was early to eSIM:

  • Pixel 3 and 3 XL (2018) onward: Pixel 3a, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 series — all support eSIM.
  • Exception: a small number of early Pixel 3 units sold through specific carriers in Australia, Taiwan, and Japan had eSIM disabled.

Other brands

  • Huawei: P40, P40 Pro, Mate 40 Pro (note: no Google services on these).
  • Xiaomi: Xiaomi 12T Pro onward, 13/14/15 series in most global variants.
  • Oppo: Find X3 Pro onward, Find N flip/fold series.
  • Motorola: Razr foldables, Edge series (recent generations).
  • Sony: Xperia 1 IV / 5 IV and newer.
  • Fairphone: Fairphone 4 and 5.

Budget phones are the most common gap: many entry-level Android devices in 2026 still ship without eSIM hardware.

The carrier-lock warning

This catches more travelers than missing eSIM hardware does.

Having an eSIM chip is not enough — your phone must also be carrier-unlocked. A phone bought on a contract or installment plan from a carrier may be software-locked so it only accepts that carrier’s SIMs. On a locked phone, a travel eSIM will install but then fail to connect, or refuse to install at all.

How to check:

  • iPhone: Settings → General → About → scroll to Carrier Lock. It should say “No SIM restrictions.”
  • Android: there’s no universal indicator — the reliable test is whether a different carrier’s SIM works. If in doubt, ask your carrier.

If your phone is locked, contact your carrier before your trip. In many countries carriers must unlock a fully-paid-off device for free on request, but processing can take a few days — not something to discover at the departure gate.

What eSIM support means for your Türkiye trip

If your phone passed both checks, you can skip physical SIM cards entirely. A travel eSIM for Türkiye is delivered digitally: you buy a data package, install it with a QR code or in-app, and your phone connects to a Turkish network on arrival — no airport counters, no passport registration, no tray-ejector tool. If the concept is new to you, our what is an eSIM explainer covers it in plain language.

A practical bonus of dual-SIM life: your home SIM stays in the phone. You keep receiving bank verification codes and calls on your usual number (leave its data roaming off to avoid charges) while all your internet runs through the Turkish eSIM.

Installation takes about two minutes. iPhone users can follow our screenshot-by-screenshot iPhone eSIM setup guide; Samsung and Pixel walkthroughs live in the device guides. And if anything about compatibility is still unclear, the FAQ covers edge cases like corporate phones and older dual-SIM models.

Verified compatible? You’re two minutes from connected

If you saw an EID and “No SIM restrictions”, your phone is ready for Türkiye. Download the Turkey eSIM app, choose a data package that fits your trip, and install it before you fly — you’ll land in Istanbul or Antalya with a working connection while the SIM-counter queue forms behind you.
